A soldier from 28 Engineer Regiment has been killed in a shooting incident at an allied base in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has said.
The soldier’s death is not being treated as a hostile action.
A full investigation is under way and next of kin have been informed.
It comes after a soldier from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) died at Camp Bastion, in southern Afghanistan. The MoD said the deaths were two separate incidents.
That soldier – of 104 Force Support Battalion, attached to 4 Close Support Battalion – died at the military base in Helmand province.
And the soldier from 28 Engineer Regiment, attached to 21 Engineer Regiment, died at Forward Operating Base Shawqat in the Nad Ali district of Helmand Province.
It brings the number of British military deaths since operations began in Afghanistan in 2001 to 432.
